Why has the Turkish army ramped up operations close to Syria? | TV Reveals Information

From: Inside Story

Turkey says it’s decided to safe its southern border.

Tensions have elevated alongside Turkey’s border with northern Syria.

Turkey’s defence ministry says its forces have hit almost 500 targets in Kurdish-held areas since Sunday.

Turkey can also be reporting casualties amongst fighters from the SDF – the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Turkey’s assaults comply with a bombing in Istanbul on November 13, for which the federal government blames the outlawed Kurdish group, the PKK.

Ankara says it’s aiming at bases in Syria belonging to the YPG, a Kurdish group with hyperlinks to the PKK.

Since 2016, Turkish forces have carried out three floor operations to filter YPG fighters from northern Syria.

Now, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is promising to launch one other army operation.
